Opening of the War Memorial Shelter West Lambrook - 2

The opening of the War Memorial Shelter in West Lambrook, by Lt.General Sir John Harding. The shelter cannot be seen in this view, but the huts of POW Hostel 44 can be clearly seen in the background. This housed mainly Italian prisoners of war, who worked on local farms. They returned home at the end of the war - although some returned to marry local girls and make a life in Somerset.
