Doke House, West End
Doke House, West End, Kingsbury Episcopi, a late medieval building. In the 19th and early 20th century it was home to the Savidge family who were butchers. They also lived in Granmere, and had additional buildings including an abbatoir down Doke, now re-named Norton Drove. Doke is thought to be a corruption of Duck, as there was a large duck pond in this area, and Silver Street was named The Pond Road on maps of 1840. Water still collects in this area in times of heavy rainfall and flood.
